UPPCL Late Payment Surcharge Calculator
Reference-rate estimate: The initial rates below follow the cited UPERC FY 2022-23 rate schedule: 1.25% per month for the first three months and 2% thereafter. Check your applicable bill and tariff order before using them. This tool uses a transparent 30-day month approximation, with the first tier ending after 90 days.
Assumes the eligible unpaid dues remain unchanged throughout the delay. For partial payments, multiple bills or changing principal, obtain the account-level calculation from your DISCOM.

How UPPCL late payment surcharge is estimated
UPERC’s cited FY 2022-23 rate schedule specifies monthly rates of 1.25% for the first three months of delay and 2% subsequently, prorated for days after the due date. It excludes existing delayed-payment surcharge from the unpaid base. These are reference rates, not a claim that every current account uses the same rule. Source: UPERC rate schedule, general provisions, clause 7(i).
This calculator approximates each month as 30 days, giving a 90-day first tier. Calendar months vary in length, so the official billing calculation can differ. The chosen rates remain visible and editable.
Later-tier LPS = unpaid eligible dues × later monthly rate ÷ 100 × max(delay days − 90, 0) ÷ 30
Estimated total = unpaid eligible dues + estimated new LPS + entered existing unpaid LPS
Example calculation
For ₹10,000 of unchanged unpaid eligible dues, 120 days of delay and reference rates of 1.25% and 2%, the first 90 days produce ₹375 and the next 30 days produce ₹200. Estimated new surcharge is ₹575. The total is ₹10,575 before any separately entered existing LPS or other account charges.
How to use this calculator
- Find the eligible unpaid dues and due date on the relevant bill.
- Remove existing LPS from the base and enter it separately if it remains unpaid.
- Choose the intended payment date and verify the rates against the tariff applicable to that bill.
- Calculate, then compare with the latest official account balance before paying.
A consolidated balance may contain bills with different due dates. Applying one due date to all arrears can give the wrong result. The tool does not allocate partial payments, calculate new bills or apply account credits.
Check the official payable amount
See UPPCL’s official tariff details for the applicable order. Use the official UPPCL consumer portal to check the latest bill and payment balance. If the LPS entry appears incorrect, request the billed principal, due dates, rates and payment-credit history from your DISCOM or contact 1912.
Frequently asked questions
Is surcharge calculated on existing surcharge?
The cited reference rule excludes existing LPS from the calculation base. The calculator keeps any existing unpaid LPS separate and adds it only to the displayed total.
Do I pay a whole month’s surcharge for one late day?
This tool prorates by the number of delayed days. With its 30-day approximation, one day is one-thirtieth of the entered monthly charge.
Does the higher rate apply to the entire delay?
In this estimate it applies only to days beyond the 90-day first tier. Earlier days retain the first-tier rate.
Can I use this for a smart meter?
Use it for a postpaid bill with an eligible unpaid amount and a due date. It does not model prepaid balance depletion or emergency-credit rules.
Does the calculator apply surcharge waiver schemes?
No automatic waiver is deducted. Any relief depends on the applicable official scheme, eligibility, registration and payment conditions. Use the sanctioned account balance.
Why can the estimate differ from my bill?
Calendar-month treatment, multiple bill ages, credited payments, revised dues, rounding, exemptions or an applicable rate change can affect the official charge.
Estimate only: This independent calculator does not issue an official payment demand. It estimates one unchanged unpaid bill using the displayed rates and 30-day month assumption. Confirm the applicable rules and current payable balance with your DISCOM.
